Morgan Sindall plc saddles up with Great Britain cycling team to raise funds for Manchester charity

Twelve Morgan Sindall plc employees took part in the Seashell Sportive cycling event to raise money for the disability charity The Seashell Trust.

The Seashell Trust provides a creative, happy and secure environment for children and adults with severe learning disabilities that often include little or no language skill.

Dominic Tinner, Head of Fundraising at The Seashell Trust, and a keen cyclist who conceived the idea, said: “We are thrilled that so many keen cyclists and some new to cycling accepted the challenge. Thanks to Morgan Sindall, our other sponsors and wonderful volunteers, we have been able to lay on an extremely professional event. Visually impaired tandem cyclist Lora Turnham and her pilot Corrine Hall, both part of the Great Britain Cycling Team, saw the cyclists off at the start of the event.”

The Seashell Sportive sees entrants taking part in either 50km, 100km or 160km routes across some of the Peak District’s most demanding climbs with over 10,000ft of elevation.

The Morgan Sindall team was moved to support the charity after visiting The Seashell Trust’s school and residential facilities and seeing the fantastic work they do to support disadvantaged children and their families.

Jane King, sustainability manager at Morgan Sindall and Seashell Sportive entrant, explained: “After visiting the Seashell Trust it was clear that the work they are doing there is indispensable for the children and young adults involved. It is an absolute delight to be helping them and the children in their care. Our team is made up of all abilities, from those just starting out like myself, to experienced cyclists. Members of the team will be tackling all ride distances.”

The event has clearly piqued the interest of the Morgan Sindall contestants as they plan to make taking part an annual event whilst looking for other charity sport events to be involved in.
