Morgan Sindall plc appointed to £1.5 million contract to refurbish University of Reading lecture theatre

Morgan Sindall plc has been appointed to a £1.5 million contract to renovate a lecture theatre at the University of Reading.

The project is already underway and will give the 400 seat lecture theatre in the Palmer building a new lease of life. The project team will complete a full internal fit out at the existing facility to upgrade the multi-use lecture space. The building will include upgraded mechanical and electrical services and a new, state-of-the-art audio visual system will also be installed in the facility.

Morgan Sindall was appointed to the project under the University of Reading framework. This £200 million five to seven year framework will comprise major new builds worth between £10 million and £50 million and numerous refurbishments ranging between £1 million and £15 million.

Janis Pich, Estates and Facilities Director at the University of Reading, said: “The G10 Lecture Theatre is used for many different purposes, including student lectures, public lectures and our Reading Film Theatre.

“Working with Morgan Sindall, this investment from the university will improve the facilities for students, staff and the local community alike.”

Tim Elliott, special works manager at Morgan Sindall, said: “The University of Reading is an integral part of the local community and is a world-renowned institution. With over 17,000 students attending the university, the campus’s teaching facilities are in constant demand.

“The project will update the facilities and ensure they include state-of-the-art resources associated with a university of this calibre.”

The project is due for completion ready for the new intake of students at the start of the academic year in September 2015.

Morgan Sindall is currently on site at a number of projects in the area including a £2 million contract to extend Wellington Community Primary School, Andover. The Fareham office of Morgan Sindall is also currently on site at a £2.6 million expansion at Locks Heath Infant and Junior Schools.
