Morgan Sindall completes work on £4.2 million Oaklands College scheme

Morgan Sindall plc has completed a £4.2 million extension and refurbishment to Oaklands College in Welwyn Garden City.

The Morgan Sindall project team constructed two new facilities for the college, the first of which was a new state-of-the-art Learning Resource Centre. This also included refurbishment of the reception area and the inclusion of a lift to improve accessibility in the college.

The project team also constructed an Engineering Resource Centre and remodeled the drama studios into classrooms. Break-out space for pupils to enjoy during down time was also included, as was a new café.

The project’s completion was marked by a special handover ceremony, which was attended by students and staff from the college as well as the Morgan Sindall project team.

Zoe Hancock, Principal at Oaklands College, said: “This redevelopment marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our Welwyn Garden City Campus. These new facilities will provide a modern, spacious environment where our students can have the best possible experience.”

Neil Franklin, Morgan Sindall area director, said: “The completed project at Oaklands College will provide exceptional new facilities for staff and students. The new resource centres will provide stimulating environments for students to learn in and practical resources for learning.

“Morgan Sindall has extensive expertise in delivering education projects on time and on budget and we are delighted to hand this project over to the college.”

Morgan Sindall is on a number of key education projects across the region. Schemes on-site include a £13.5 million contract to construct the University Campus Aylesbury Vale (UCAV) educational centre in Buckinghamshire for Aylesbury Vale District Council. The company has also recently successfully completed a £18 million project to redevelop and upgrade facilities at the University of Hertfordshire.
