Everybody needs good neighbours
A team from Morgan Sindall's Cambridge office has given the grounds of disability charity Papworth Trust a new lease of life as part of the annual nationwide charity initiative, Neighbourhood Week.
Papworth Trust is a charitable organisation which has been working with disabled and older people across the UK for almost 100 years, providing affordable homes and supporting those who wish to live as independently as possible.
During the week-long project in September, the team of ten from Morgan Sindall upped tools to transform the grounds of Papworth Trust into a beautiful and safe patio garden for residents to enjoy.
The team gave the communal grounds a complete overhaul and work included; repaving the area, constructing a special seating space overlooking the village green and providing low hanging wall planters for wheelchair users. They also repaired the old fencing around the garden, planted new flower beds and installed handrails.
Subcontractors including Travis Perkins, R&D Construction, Premier Decorators, Land Structure and Madingly Mulch also got involved, generously donating time and materials to the project.
On the final day of the project, the team was joined by residents from Papworth Trust to add a final splash of colour to the new garden area.
Morgan Sindall project manager, Andy Vallis, said: “Papworth Trust provides so much support for residents in Cambridgeshire and we’re very pleased to be helping the charity in its mission to support disabled and older people who wish to retain their independence.
“The new garden space will provide a safe and relaxing area where residents can come to socialise and enjoy their surroundings and will make such a huge difference to the daily lives of residents.
“For us, giving something back to the local community in which we work every day is important and we’re enormously proud to have delivered this project.”
Robert Wallace, interim volunteer programme manager at Papworth Trust, said: “We are extremely grateful for the support of Morgan Sindall.
“The team has been extremely generous, hardworking and proactive in transforming what has been an underused area into a wheelchair accessible garden that the local community can enjoy.”
