Construction manager shortlisted for top award

Morgan Sindall project manager Mark Chitty has been shortlisted for the Chartered Institute of Building’s Construction Manager of the Year Awards for his work creating a new primary school in Huddersfield.

Mark, 55, will join a host of finalists on 14 October to compete for the title within the New Build / Refurbishment Projects Over £4 million to £6 million category.

The accolade recognises his achievements in managing the construction of Hillside Primary School in Newsome under a £4.8 million contract for Kirklees Council.

“I am thrilled to be considered for this award,” says Mark, who lives in Sheffield. “We thoroughly enjoyed working at Hillside and hope the children are now enjoying their new, state-of-the-art school. We are passionate about delivering a high standard on all our education projects and this was no exception.”

Mark and his team built the single storey school next to the existing Stile Common Infants and Junior school buildings in Headfield Road. The move brought together infants and juniors under one roof.

After Morgan Sindall completed work on the new school in December 2009, the old school was demolished.

Screen and stage star Denise Van Outen will host the Construction Manager of the Year Awards ceremony, which is due to be held at Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, London.
